Mixed Mode Programme - Master of Science (Computer Science)

It was a coursework programme offered in 1996/97 academic year. It had been suitably revised in 2001/02 academic year and subsequently in 2007/08 academic year, this programme is offered as a mixed mode programme.

Objectives
To provide postgraduate with:

  • A solid foundation in Computer Science
  • An understanding of innovative computer technologies
  • The ability to relate the various Computer Science disciplines at both the conceptual and practical levels
  • The ability to translate the postgraduate knowledge and skills to industry needs
  • The ability and motivation to pursue a doctoral programme


Admission Requirements
Currently, the intake is only limited to full-time candidates and applicants should posses the following:

  • A BSc degree in Computer Science/ Information Technology or equivalent or
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering/ Electrical Engineering/ Computer Engineering (60% of the core component must be Computer Science related) with
  • A minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent.
  • Degrees awarded by local/ private institutions of higher learning, including those awarded under any collaborative/ franchising schemes with local or foreign partners must be accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

For International Applicants:

  • A minimum score of 550 in TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
  • A minimum score of 6.0 in IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

For Malaysian Applicants:

A minimum score of band 4 in MUET (Malaysian University English Test)

Study Scheme
The candidature period for a full-time M.Sc. (CS) programme is between one to two years. Table 3 shows an example of a study scheme for M.Sc. (CS).

Programme Structure

This mixed mode programme requires a minimum of 12 months. It consists of two distinct components; a taught component and a research component resulting in a dissertation.Two specialization areas are offered:

  • Distributed Computing and Networks
  • Information and Knowledge Engineering
