Research Mode Programme - PhD. & MSc by Research

Prerequisite Requirements
Prerequisite courses are compulsory for all students and must be taken and pass prior to graduation. The requirement pass grade is C+. Prerequisite courses need to be taken as follows:

For Master’s student :

CCS591/4 - Research Methodology & Empirical Methods in Computer Science

For PhD’s student :

CCS591/4 - Research Methodology & Empirical Methods in Computer Science
CCS593/4 - Advanced Algorithms and Complexity or
CCS515/4 - Advanced Knowledge Management (depending on the entry qualification and proposed title and research field)

Duration

MSc

Full-time: Min 1 year / Max 3 years
Part-time: Min 2 years / Max 5 years

PhD

Full-time: Min 2 years / Max 6 years
Part-time: Min 3 years / Max 7.5 years

Admission Requirements
Applicants should posses the following:

MSc

  • A BSc degree in Computer Science/ Information Technology or equivalent or
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering/ Electrical Engineering/ Computer Engineering (60% of the core component must be Computer Science related) with
  • A minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent.
  • Degrees awarded by local/ private institutions of higher learning, including those awarded under any collaborative/ franchising schemes with local or foreign partners must be accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).


PhD

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science/ Information Technology or equivalent or
  • A Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering/ Electrical Engineering/ Computer Engineering (60% of the core component must be Computer Science related) with
  • A minimum CGPA of 3.00 or equivalent or
  • A Bachelor’s degree with First Class Honours or GGPA with greater than 3.67in related areas.

Language Requirements

For International Applicants:

  • A minimum score of 500 in TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
  • A minimum score of 5.0 in IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

For Malaysian Applicants:

A minimum score of band 4 in MUET (Malaysian University English Test)
